makeup hacks

Aside from showering, performing our skincare routine, and picking out an outfit for the day; many of us tend to spend a lot of time doing our makeup to ensure that we look fresh and presentable throughout the day. We use the best products like Holika Holika to ensure that we look our best.

Unfortunately, neither of us are immune to a little beauty faux pas every now and then, especially when we’re under a lot of pressure and stress. While that may be the case, there are a handful of emergency makeup hacks we can perform to fix these embarrassing moments. Here are some life-saving tips to remember:

1. Emergency oil management

If you have oily skin and are prone to shine, it always helps to use blotting sheets to absorb excess oil. However, if you ran out you can always use disposable toilet seat covers to dab on your face for the same effect.

2. Greasy hair

Greasy hair can make you look tired and unkempt. To remedy this problem, grab some translucent powder and lightly dust the product on your scalp. Shake it well into your hair or brush it through with a handy comb for equal distribution. Make sure to leave no visible traces of powder.

3. Handy deodorant

If you ran out of deodorant or forgot to apply some in the morning, use baby wipes to wipe your underarms to clean the skin. Apply hand sanitizer after to combat odour-causing bacteria.

4. Avoid lipstick stains

A beautiful smile can be ruined when lipstick stains appear on our teeth. Combat this embarrassing moment by slipping your finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around the finger and gently slide it out to see if there are any lipstick marks.

5. Correct with concealer

Applying perfect winged eyeliner can take a lot of time. For moments where you may accidentally made a few mistakes and don’t feel like redoing your wings, simply dab on concealer on the splotchy areas and blend into your eyelid.

6. Perfume as polish remover

For times where your nails aren’t looking too good and you ran out of polish remover, spritz some perfume unto your nail and rub it off with a cotton ball.

7. Smoother mascara

If your mascara formula is a bit too dry and flakey, add some eye drop solution into the formula and seal. Roll the tube on a flat surface to mix the formula well. Avoid pumping the solution with the wand since it can introduce bubbles into the mix.

8. Quick blemish remover

Remove an annoying pimple with aspirin. Crush a tablet into powder and mix it with a bit of water; with a q-tip or cotton buds to make a paste and apply to blemish to help dry it out faster.

9. Make lipstick stay longer

To make your lipstick stay longer, grab a tissue and place it over your lips. Using a brush, dust on some translucent powder and swipe it over the tissue. Avoid making your lips too powdery by applying only minimal product. Discard the tissue after use.

10. Tame wild eyebrows

Unruly eyebrows may need a little reinforcement. To help tame them, grab a toothbrush and apply a bit of hairspray on the bristles. Brush your eyebrows in place before filling in with an eyebrow pencil.

11. Fix cracked pressed powders

Cracked pressed powders, bronzers, and blush can make a huge mess. Instead of throwing them out, add in a few drops of rubbing alcohol to these cracks and press the pieces together. Let it dry before using them again.

12. Emergency lip gloss

Scrape some eyeshadow color and put it in a small container, add a dab of petroleum jelly and mix. Rub the formula on your lips for instant lip gloss!

13. Emergency mascara

If you ran out of mascara, scrape some black or brown eyeshadow powder into a small dish. Add a bit of petroleum jelly and mix to make a paste. Use the mascara wand to apply emergency mascara to your lashes.

14. Lipstick as blush

If you ran out of blush or cheek tint you can use your lipstick for that added color. Simply dab on your favorite shade with a fingertip and apply the product on your cheeks. Blend well for a more natural look.

Our makeup can take a toll when we’re under a lot of pressure which can lead to some pretty embarrassing moments. While we certainly aren’t immune to some of these incidents, keeping a calm head and applying some of these hacks can definitely help improve our mood while also keeping our appearances neat.
